Sourav Ganguly Reveals Delhi Capitals' Top IPL Auction Targets, Big Names In Sight

Translate

Newly-appointed Delhi Capitals head coach Sourav Ganguly has revealed that the franchise are targeting Australia's Fraser McGurk and West Indies' Shai Hope to buy at the upcoming Indian Premier League auction. The IPL 2027 mini-auction will reportedly take place in Goa on December 16, with the event scheduled on the same day as the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. The auction will be held nearly a month after the retention deadline, which has reportedly been moved to November 17.

"We have two overseas players in our sights. We want to bring in Australia's Fraser McGurk and West Indies' Shai Hope," said Ganguly, as quoted by Anandabazar Patrika.

Fraser-McGurk made his IPL debut in 2024 while playing for Delhi Capitals after being included in their squad as a replacement player. In the next auction, he was retained by the side using the Right to Match (RTM) card. DC paid a whopping sum of Rs 9 crore for the swashbuckling Australia batter in the mega auction.

Overall, he has played 15 IPL matches, scoring 385 runs at an average of 25.67 and a strike rate of 199.49.

Shai Hope, on the other hand, was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh for IPL 2024, but he was released by the side after one season.

Delhi Capitals are going through a series of changes. They appointed former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra as the spin-bowling coach and Yuvraj Singh as their assistant coach and batting coach. This came after Sourav Ganguly was handed over the position of head coach.

DC have been busy in the trade window as well, sending left-arm pacer T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad and bringing in leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari. They had earlier traded wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav to Lucknow Super Giants and brought back Rishabh Pant in return.

Delhi Capitals are seeking to end their status as the tournament's perennial underachievers, especially after missing the playoffs in the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons under Hemang Badani (head coach), Venugopal Rao (director of cricket) and Munaf Patel (fast-bowling coach). The Delhi-based franchise's only appearance in an IPL final came in the 2020 season.
