President Prabowo launches National Council for Financial Welfare

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the National Council for Financial Welfare, a new body designed to shift the country’s economic priorities from merely expanding banking access to improving household financial resilience, here on Thursday.
The new council replaces the National Council for Financial Inclusion, which had been in place since 2006. Its establishment is formalized under Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024.
Under the new structure, President Prabowo directly leads the council. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto acts as executive chairman, while Friderica Widyasari Dewi, chief of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Board of Commissioners, serves as vice chairperson.
Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti and Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara have been appointed as deputy executive chairs, supported by several other cabinet ministers.
In his briefing to the President, Hartarto said the council represents a strategic policy pivot based on three core pillars: financial wellness, resilience against economic shocks, and long-term financial security — all targeted at the household level.
"The orientation has evolved. While the previous council focused primarily on expanding public access to bank accounts, the President has now redirected our focus toward family financial well-being… The household is the fundamental economic unit of our society," Hartarto said.
The launch took place during the closing ceremony of the 2024 National Coordination Meeting of the Regional Financial Access Acceleration Team (TPAKD). The event gathered regional leaders — including provincial governors, regents, and mayors — along with financial service executives, microfinance beneficiaries, and senior government officials.
