KUANTAN: The Polytechnic and Community College Education Department will continue to provide support and assistance to the family of a 19-year-old student who died in an incident at Jalan Air Putih yesterday.

In a statement, the department expressed its condolences to the family of M. Elisa Jonova, a diploma student at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (Polisas), who was found unconscious yesterday.

"The department and Polisas will continue to provide the necessary support and assistance to the deceased's family during this difficult time.

"The case is currently under investigation by the authorities. The department and Polisas will give full cooperation to assist in the investigation and leave it to the authorities to conduct a thorough probe," it said.

The department also urged all quarters not to speculate or disseminate unverified information and to respect the privacy of the deceased's family.

Yesterday, it was reported that a female student was found dead at about 4.30am, believed to have been strangled following an argument with her boyfriend, inside a house.

The 19-year-old suspect, who contacted police after the incident, has been remanded until Oct 12 to assist in the murder investigation.

Meanwhile, Polisas expressed its sorrow and condolences to the victim's family in a Facebook post, which also included a photograph of the victim.
