'He Had BMW, But Sat With Me In Alto': Amit Mishra's Massive Revelation On Gautam Gambhir's Character

Gautam Gambhir is one of the most divisive personalities in Indian cricket, known for his fiercely competitive attitude on the field. However, off the field, it appears that he is someone who stays true to his friends, irrespective of differences on the ground. Former India spinner Amit Mishra, who spent several years playing alongside Gambhir in domestic, international and franchise cricket, revealed an unknown side of the current Indian head coach, and explained why they've remained friends over the years.
In an interview with former India cricketer and reputed commentator Aakash Chopra, Amit Mishra stated that Gambhir would never show off his wealth to others.
"One thing is very good about Gautam. He has remained my friend because he has never shown off that he is well to do," Mishra stated.
"He has sat with me in an Alto, which was my first car. A guy who used to drive around in BMWs and Mercedes during that era still did not mind asking me to pick him up in my car. He never showed off to me or anyone else, and he was a very self-respecting person," Mishra added.

The former leg-spinner, who played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, then shared another anecdote involving Gambhir.
Mishra revealed that once he and Gambhir had clashed on the field and exchanged a few words in the heat of the moment. However, the very same day, after the end of play, Gambhir phoned Mishra and asked him to come with him for dinner.
"He would fight on the ground, but if you were his friend, he would set that aside and come back to you as well," Mishra stated.
While the two played for different states - Gambhir played for Delhi and Mishra represented Haryana - they turned out for the same team in zonal cricket. In addition to playing for India together, Gambhir and Mishra also shared the dressing room at IPL franchises Delhi Daredevils and Lucknow Super Giants.
