MIRI, Oct 14 — A 16-year-old student was killed after being struck by a car while crossing the road near SMK Luar Bandar Miri in Bekenu on Tuesday.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident occurred at about 1.10pm when a car driven by a 46-year-old local woman, travelling from Miri towards Bakong, allegedly struck the student.

“The student was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Tun Abang Haji Openg Bekenu Health Clinic,” he said in a statement on Tuesday night.

Mohd Farhan said the impact damaged the front-left section of the car, while the driver was unhurt.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Meanwhile police have urged anyone with information about the accident to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizal Moktar at 012-818 6509 or 085-430479, or report to the nearest police station. — The Borneo Post
