One dead, four injured in Paris shooting as police probe terror link
One person is dead and at least four others wounded after a gunman allegedly opened fire from a vehicle on the outskirts of Paris on Friday.
Police said gunshots were fired in Trappes, west of Paris, at about 10:30am local time. A suspect was later arrested in the nearby neighbourhood of Coignieres.
France's anti-terrorism unit is looking into a possible terror link, although police say the shooter's motive remains unclear.
Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh told French broadcaster BFM TV the gunman appeared to have fired randomly at various locations, including a playground.
"It is a miracle that there were not more victims," he said.
In a statement on X, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said the shooting was "very serious", adding that "all resources of the security forces and the judiciary are fully mobilised".
"France's National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has announced that it is monitoring the situation."
News agency AFP reported prosecutors were treating the shooting as a "murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise".
