Jakarta opens door to investment from China's Hangzhou

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta is seeking to attract investment from businesses in China's Hangzhou, particularly in technology and digital industries, as the Indonesian capital strengthens its role as a regional business and investment hub.
Jakarta Regional Secretary Uus Kuswanto described Hangzhou as a strategic partner in innovation, technology and business development at a ceremony marking the establishment of the Indonesia Hangzhou Chamber of Commerce on Thursday evening.
He said Jakarta, as Indonesia's business center, was strategically positioned as a gateway for national investment and trade, supported by strong infrastructure, human resources and a well-developed business ecosystem.
Hangzhou, meanwhile, has emerged as a center for digital economic development, technology and innovative industries, offering opportunities for complementary cooperation, he said.
Uus said the Jakarta administration would continue improving the investment climate, simplifying business procedures and encouraging cooperation between the government and companies to facilitate foreign investment, including from Hangzhou.
"We hope agreements between companies in Jakarta and Hangzhou will extend to promising sectors, including trade, digital technology, creative industries and other areas with strong future prospects," Uus said.
He expressed confidence that stronger investment from Hangzhou through Jakarta would boost Indonesia's economic performance and deepen bilateral cooperation under the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership.
Uus also congratulated the chamber on its establishment, saying it could connect businesses, expand trade and investment networks, and create more effective cooperation between Indonesia and China.
Meanwhile, Indonesia Hangzhou Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ya Daifeng said Hangzhou companies had competitive advantages in digital economic development, smart manufacturing and creative industries.
He said the chamber aimed to bridge Hangzhou's industrial strengths and entrepreneurial expertise with Indonesia's substantial market opportunities and business potential.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that Indonesia's non-oil and gas exports to China reached US$54.17 billion in January-September 2026.
Indonesia's imports from China totaled US$76.16 billion during the same period. Bilateral trade includes nickel, vegetable oils, machinery, electronic equipment and plastics.
