7-year-old boy dead after being run over by closed van in Guiguinto, Bulacan

A seven-year-old boy died and his stepfather was injured after a closed van hit their motorcycle along the Marcos Highway in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

In the 24 Oras report of James Agustin on Tuesday, the accident happened along Marcos Highway at around 11 a.m. of Wednesday, September 26.

CCTV footage showed the closed van hitting the victims' motorcycle while it was crossing the road, dragging the occupants for several meters.

The boy, grade two student Ewan Jester Ducut, was ran over twice before the closed van stopped.

The rider also sustained injuries on his legs. He said he fetched the boy from school and were returning home. He said the traffic was moving fast and he decided to stop and signaled he was making a turn to the opposite direction. He said the closed van went straight ahead and hit them.

Police said the driver of the van claimed the vehicle had weak brakes that were scheduled to undergo repair.

The 68-year-old van driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to property. He was allowed to post bail on Monday.

GMA News has reached out to the suspect for comment.

The victims' parents said they will pursue the case against the suspect.—RF, GMA News
