Every Upcoming Marvel Animated Show

Despite Marvel Studios putting the axe to a handful of their live-action shows, there are some exciting animated Marvel shows currently in the works. The current climate for the future of Marvel is hanging in the balance, as so much of the future success of the MCU on how well received movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios and Disney appear to be culling many of their live-action shows, such as Wonder Man which they previously renewed for a second season before going back on the decision and canceling the show in the midst of a potentially highly successful awards campaign, and Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently in post-production for season 3.

However, while the live-action Marvel universe appears to be in free fall, the animated Marvel stories have been going through a period of unusual success and celebration from audiences and critics alike. With a handful of highly anticipated shows working on their latest seasons, and an exciting new release in the works, Marvel's brightest future could be in animation.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2

Spider-Man stands out as one of the most complex characters for Marvel Studios to interact with at present, due to the live-action distribution rights being tied up at Sony Entertainment, and a unique collaboration between Disney and Marvel opening the door for the studios to collaborate and have Tom Holland as a prominent part of the MCU.

Fortunately, when it comes to animation, Marvel has a lot more freedom, as they continue to hold the rights for short-form animated storytelling featuring Peter Parker as Spider-Man, which is exactly why they can create something brand new in the form of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Interestingly, Sony Entertainment also holds the theatrical and feature animation rights for Peter Parker and for Miles Morales, which is why they can produce incredibly popular films like the recent Into the Spider-Verse franchise without oversight by Marvel Studios.

The first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, debuted on Disney+ in January 2025, creating a version of Peter Parker that harks back to the earliest comics illustrated by Jack Kirby, while also changing the story to include new friends, updated villains, and a very innovative cast of characters taking on unique roles.

Now, the series is set to release its second season, bringing these characters back to the small screen in January 2027, two years after the first season debuted. While this isn't Tom Holland's Spider-Man, the exploration of the character and the fresh approach to telling a story that has played out many times before is an exciting update worth following.

Marvel's Avengers: Mightiest Friends

Marvel's Avengers: Mightiest Friends is an exciting new iteration of the popular Avengers team of superheroes reimagined in a way that is more appealing to pre-school age kids, and featuring simple moral lessons for young children to enjoy while these superheroes showcase their impressive powers.

The show is being made in association with Disney Junior and Marvel Studios, with Atomic Cartoons bringing the animation to life. It also follows a very similar style of animation and storytelling to the widely popular Spidey and His Amazing Friends show that introduced a new generation of kids to some of the world's most beloved heroes.

While this is clearly an animated show made with younger audiences in mind, there is still a lot to look forward to because of the mere fact that characters like Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain America, and Thor will all be making an impression on younger viewers and continuing to foster a love and appreciation for some of the most exciting comic book characters ever made.

X-Men '97 Season 3

One extraordinary season that has broken the mold in more ways than one when it comes to Marvel Animation is X-Men '97. This show is a direct continuation of the popular X-Men: The Animated Series that aired throughout the 1990s, and created a generation of X-Men fans who have remained attached to these colorful characters in the decades since their earliest introduction.

X-Men '97 first appeared on Disney+ in 2024, and immediately, it was clear that the show had grown up along with the audience. Not only is the series more graphic and willing to portray mature elements that never appeared in the earlier iteration, but it continues to explore profound and challenging topics, just as the earlier series did, in a way that is entertaining and compelling.

X-Men '97 is easily the best Marvel animated show currently releasing, and with the series about to embark on its third season in 2027, it is hopeful that this could be Marvel's most prolific show. Especially considering season 2 just wrapped up in August 2026, and a fourth season is already planned and in the works.

Clearly, X-Men '97 stands out from the crowd in terms of shows currently under the Marvel banner, animated or otherwise, and the exploration of some of the most fascinating characters to ever come from Marvel Comics is a promising foundation for the series to continue to build on. Hopefully, the studio can continue to build on the success of the series to date and avoid any awkward developments as have been seen in the live-action Marvel space.

Along with these three currently announced shows, all of which are expected to appear in 2027, audiences remain hopeful that more Marvel stories will be able to find their way to animation, utilizing this underappreciated storytelling art form. Animation opens the door for more ambitious stories to be told on a smaller budget, and for more creativity and artistic license to enter the frame through these incredible productions.

While Marvel struggles to make sense of what it needs to deliver in the live-action space, with the MCU about to undergo a major transition away from the Multiverse Saga, and in terms of their TV offerings, which have slowly dwindled until the inevitable culling we have witnessed in recent weeks and months, Marvel Animation could be the answer that the studio needs to keep TV fans entertained until things get a little more stable.
