Watch: Russian drones hit McDonald’s-linked warehouse in Ukraine, 5 killed

A warehouse used by the logistics partner of US fast-food chain McDonald's was hit in Russian drone attacks on Kyiv on Friday, with Ukrainian authorities saying five people were killed and 27 injured across the capital.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the warehouse strike was part of a wider Russian campaign targeting civilian infrastructure and businesses operating in Ukraine.“An attack drone against ordinary food,” Zelensky wrote in a Telegram post while describing the strike.

The warehouse, located in the Brovary district, was reportedly attacked twice. Kyiv Regional State Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said the first strike took place at around 3 am, while another attack hit the facility later in the day."Today, the Russians twice attacked a civilian warehouse used by the logistics partner of the U.S. McDonald's chain. It is a food warehouse with refrigerated storage facilities in Brovary district. The first strike occurred at around 03:00, and the second came during the day," Tkachenko said.Fire destroys food storage facilityA fire broke out after the second strike, with the section of the facility used to store food products completely destroyed by the blaze, according to the Kyiv Regional State Administration.

Tkachenko said there was no military facility at the site and described the warehouse as a civilian food storage facility."There was no military facility here whatsoever—the warehouse stored food products. Everything looks like a deliberate strike against a facility associated with an American company. Today, we can see especially clearly that the Russians are deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian and international businesses—everything that supports people's normal daily lives," Tkachenko emphasized.The supplied reports did not say whether anyone was killed or injured specifically at the McDonald's-linked warehouse.Zelensky said attacks on businesses, communications infrastructure and civilian facilities were intended to disrupt ordinary life in Ukraine.“American and other businesses, data centers, internet providers – all ordinary life is simply a target for Russia,” Zelensky said.“It is important that the world responds to all of this and that Russia feels the consequences of its terror,” he said.The deadliest incident reported in Kyiv occurred in the Solomianskyi district, where Zelensky said a Russian drone struck an office building, killing four people and injuring seven others, including a child.Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said cars caught fire in a parking area near the building and emergency crews later extinguished the blaze.A medical facility in the same district was also damaged. Three people who were near the facility, including a child, were hospitalised.Authorities said five people were killed and 27 injured across Kyiv during Friday's attacks.Among those killed was a 14-year-old boy who died when a Russian strike hit a high-rise residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district earlier in the morning.Zelensky said Russia was expanding its attacks to businesses, data centres and other infrastructure supporting civilian life.The Ukrainian president called for Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities and international sanctions to work together to impose “concrete consequences” on Moscow.He said attacks on businesses and civilian facilities were affecting Ukrainians' ability to work, study and remain connected.The warehouse strike also drew attention because the facility was associated with an American company operating in Ukraine.Ukrainian authorities said emergency and rescue services responded to the site following the attacks and worked to deal with the fire and aftermath.
