2 teens killed, 1 hurt as motorcycle slams into parked truck in Surigao

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — Two 17-year-old boys died while another teenager was injured early Wednesday morning after their motorcycle crashed into a parked fuel tanker along the national highway in Barangay Luna, Surigao City.
In a phone interview, Lt. Col. Mariano Lukban, chief of the Surigao Component City Police Station (SCCPS), said the accident happened past 4:40 a.m. in front of the Ford Surigao showroom at Km. 5.
The victims were riding a black Yamaha Aerox driven by a 17-year-old boy, with two other male teens of the same age riding pillion.

Lukban said the victims were believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
Initial police investigation showed the motorcycle was speeding toward Barangay Bonifacio when it suddenly swerved to the left, crossed into the opposite lane, and plowed onto the road shoulder where a Sinotruk Howo fuel tanker was parked.
Police noted that early warning devices were properly positioned in front, beside, and behind the parked tanker at the time of the collision.
Emergency medical responders from the Surigao City local government rushed the teenagers, who were not wearing helmets, to the Caraga Regional Hospital, where attending physicians declared the two dead on arrival.

The third teenager sustained injuries and is now in stable condition at the hospital.
Authorities said the motorcycle lacked a valid Land Transportation Office (LTO) Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration (OR/CR).

Police brought the tanker truck driver to the police station for standard documentation and further investigation, while the remains of the two victims were transferred to a local mortuary for postmortem examination. /mr
