Jerry Ahmed Shaib urges safe contraflow, seeks Metro Mass buses for Weija-Gbawe

The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has urged the Ministry of Transport to extend Metro Mass Transit buses to his constituency to help address persistent transport challenges.

He welcomed the introduction of contraflow on the Kasoa-Accra road as a potential measure to ease congestion but cautioned that road safety must be the priority.

“My expectation is that we should do it in a manner that would not end up actually causing accidents,” he said in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, October 26.

Mr Shaib said commuters in Weija-Gbawe and surrounding communities, including Tetegu, face high transport costs and often have to board multiple vehicles to reach their destinations. He appealed to the Transport Minister to provide at least four to six Metro Mass Transit buses to serve the area.

“I’m praying that the Minister of Transport would also hear our cry and also furnish us with at least four or six Metro buses so that they can ply both Weija and Gbawe, Tetegu, all of these places,” he said.

According to the MP, some commuters who normally spend between GH¢15 and GH¢20 on a journey now pay as much as GH¢60 to GH¢70 because of the transport difficulties. He said additional buses would help reduce fares and ease the daily burden on residents.
