On October 11, ‘Legally Blonde’ star Selma Blair got into an altercation with a flight attendant, a police officer, and a nurse, all of whom have now landed her in legal trouble. Her lawyer told the court that she was extremely exhausted and that the incident was unintentional.

A week later, her representative issued an official statement on Selma's behalf regarding the incident.

Selma Blair issues an official statement following a physical altercation and arrest

In a statement provided to PEOPLE by her representative, Blair said she had a “medical emergency” on board her flight. The statement also mentioned that they wished to clarify some rumours that had arisen during the star’s silence in the past week over the matter.“Fair reporting has been the exception, and in the space left by our silence, speculation has hardened into something being treated as fact.

We can, however, correct the record on a few points already in public circulation. Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight. There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma did not intend to harm anyone,” the statement read, further touching upon allegations that the actress’ multiple sclerosis was not true. The statement added, “The suggestion by anyone that Selma does not have multiple sclerosis is outrageous.

Her diagnosis has been public since 2018. What Selma has been able to do physically in the years since is nothing short of a miracle. She still has bad days, and she lives with pain daily.”

Selma Blair’s service dog was taken away from her during the altercation

In the statement, it was also revealed that along with the multiple sclerosis diagnosis, Blair is also suffering from pseudobulbar affect, which is a neurological issue and “secondary” to MS. They added that Blair has been through a lot, and because of this condition, she had a medical episode on the flight. It was also shared in the statement that the actress travels with a service dog because of this. “Which bears directly on how a medical episode presents to people who do not know her. For the same reason, she travels with a service dog who doesn’t leave her side, and the authorities took her dog from her," they further shared. The statement also detailed how busy the actress has been this year, from launching her own products to starring in multiple films, and the schedule has been exhaustive for her.The statement concluded, “There is much more to this story than has been reported, and we ask to consider the entirety of the facts before rushing to judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion.”

The 54-year-old had been arrested on October 11 following an in-flight altercation. She was taken into custody at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport before being taken to a hospital along with the flight attendant. Reportedly, she injured one officer responsible for transporting her to the hospital and also injured one of the nurses present at the medical facility. She was taken to court, where she pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault.

Later, the actress was released on bail.If Blair is found guilty of the charges, she could face up to seven years in prison.
