BFP bet from Que clan leads Tawi-Tawi 1st District race for BARMM Parliament

Julbert Que used to be vice mayor of Tawi-Tawi’s Bongao town, which both his brothers currently lead in tandem

MANILA, Philippines – A former vice mayor of Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi, Julbert Que, is set to become the province’s 1st District representative in the Bangsamoro Parliament. 

He will join his two brothers, current Bongao mayor Jasper and vice mayor Jimuel, in government service.

This comes after the conclusion of the first-ever Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections on Monday, September 14.

Que has obtained 49,129 of the votes so far from 71,260 registered voters, securing one seat for his political party, the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP), according to 80.35% of total election returns as of Monday, 8:29 pm.

He edged out Shirmal Hajim Sabal, the bet of the BFP’s rival party, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party.

Sabal, an educator and former provincial director of the BARMM Ministry of Science and Technology, got 2,420 of the votes. This means Sabal can no longer catch up to Que’s lead.

Like other newly elected parliament members, Que will serve a special five-year transition term from October 30, 2026, to June 30, 2031. He will be one of the 32 district representatives making up 40% of the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament. – Rappler.com
