KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — An alarming claim that an 11-year-old girl had left her school with a man on a motorcycle was fabricated by a fellow pupil after a dispute between the pair, police have said.
Kulim district police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring said investigations found the girl had never left the school grounds and had instead hidden inside a toilet after an argument with a friend, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Police were alerted after the school’s Senior Assistant for Student Affairs received information from two female pupils claiming the girl had left the premises with a man on a motorcycle.
But investigators later established that the account was false.
“Investigations found that the pupil arrived at school as usual at 7.20am after being dropped off by her older sister and attended the school assembly at about 8am,” Syamsul said.
“During the assembly, the pupil was believed to have played with her friend’s hair bun before the friend pulled her headscarf, causing her inner scarf to come off.”
Syamsul said the 11-year-old then went to the toilet to fix her headscarf, but remained there instead of returning to class.
While she was missing from the classroom, one of her friends told the school’s Senior Assistant for Student Affairs that the girl had left the school grounds with a man on a motorcycle.
“However, during questioning, her friend admitted that she had made up the story because she was upset with the pupil,” Syamsul said.
“Another pupil who knew that the story was untrue also went along with the claim.”
Police subsequently confirmed that the girl had remained inside the school throughout the episode and had not been taken away by any man.
The incident had initially sparked concern at the school before investigators pieced together what had happened.
