Carlos Espi came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner and rescue Real Madrid in its La Liga encounter away at Elche on Tuesday.
Jose Mourinho’s side squandered a two-goal lead but recovered to take all three points and move level with FC Barcelona at the top of the table on 15 points.
Madrid opened the scoring in the 25th minute through a Matias Dituro own goal after Arda Guler’s freekick ricocheted off the past and in off the goalkeeper.
New signing Yan Diomande provided his first assist for the club, setting up Kylian Mbappe for the second in the 33rd minute.
Elche pulled one back through forward Abiel Osorio, who headed in a cross from Lucas Cepeda in the 71st minute to score his first goal for the club.
Marc Cucurella conceded possession in the 83rd minute, which allowed Fer Nino to score the equaliser.
Mourinho’s side snatched the three points in the 91st minute, though, when Espi scored the winner from an Mbappe assist.
