Frosinone have moved into the Serie A top four after an entertaining 4-2 victory at home against Sassuolo on Friday evening: Italy U21 star Antonio Raimondo scoring a hat-trick to send his side towards victory.
Frosinone came into tonight’s game looking to put things right after falling to a 3-0 defeat against Napoli last time out in Serie A. Their season had got off to a flyer with victories over Fiorentina, Venezia and Como, which saw head coach Massimiliano Alvini awarded the coach of the month award for September.
Sassuolo have had a mixed set of results at the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign, including a 1-1 draw against Milan last weekend, a 2-1 defeat against Monza the week before, a 3-2 victory over Juventus and a 2-2 draw against Bologna.

The hosts were gifted the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Sassuolo were caught trying to play it out of the back: Arijanet Muric played the ball to Darryl Bakola inside the Neroverdi area, the midfielder was dispossessed and the ball fell kindly for Giacomo Calo to stick into the roof of the net one-on-one.
Bakola was able to make amends a few minutes later, nicking the ball himself this time to stop another Frosinone attack before launching a first-time ball over to Domenico Berardi to chase down unopposed in the opposition half. The Italian rounded Lorenzo Palmisani before finishing into an empty net from a tight angle.
Frosinone found themselves back in front 10 minutes later when Muric failed to beat Raimondo to a cross that landed on the edge of the six-yard box. The goalkeeper spilled it and the Frosinone no.9 was able to poke home from close range.

Raimondo, who was crowned the Serie A rising star of the month award for September ahead of kick-off, was on hand to capitalise on another Sassuolo calamity at the back. This time it was a poor backwards header from Cas Odenthal, which Muric failed to deal with, and the Italy U21 star read the bounce perfectly to steal the ball and finish into another empty goal net.
Still, there were more goals to come before the end of the first half. Kristian Thorstvedt and Sebastiano Esposito played a perfect one-two to take three Frosinone defenders out of the equation, which allowed the Dane to race through and finish past Palmiasni one-on-one for 3-2.
Muric had to be alert to keep Raimondo out at his near post from a Frosinone attack that came straight from the following kick-off in a real end-to-end first 45.
Romano Schmid, still looking for his first Serie A goal, almost found the top corner five minutes into the second half had it not been for a strong one-handed diving save from Muric.
Raimondo made it a hat-trick 10 minutes after the re-start. Giorgi Kvernadze provided the cross into the area in the second phase following a corner, Fares Ghedjemis forced Muric into a save with his header back across the face of goal, and it again dropped kindly for Raimondo to tuck away.

Tonight’s result sends Frosinone up to fourth place in the Serie A table with 13 points from their first seven matches back in the top flight. Sassuolo still have eight points and currently sit in 11th, albeit with nine other matches left to be played this season.
