TV tonight: Channel 5’s revival of Play for Today goes wild

Another series of Channel 5’s revival of the famed Play for Today strand begins with this comedy drama starring Amit Shah, Joel Fry and Daniel Mays as three university mates whose annual wild camping trip is the setting for midge attacks, lost phones and festering grievances. The characters are broadly drawn and their mishaps predictable, but it’s still refreshing in these tough TV times to see a channel maintaining a platform for standalone original drama. Phil Harrison

The gentle mackem continues his vaguely dystopian quest to find and celebrate British people who have had to improvise because normal houses are unaffordable. Leading the way are a young couple who plan to live in a converted bus. In Cornwall, meanwhile, could some old toilets become viable homes? Jack Seale

You’re Killing Me

The kooky whodunnit starring Brooke Shields as a murder-solving novelist wraps up its first season with an impulsive road trip to track down the missing mom of sidekick Andi (Amalia Williamson). The Thelma and Louise vibes are soon scuppered by an undercover assassin in hot pursuit. Graeme Virtue

The Walking Dead: Dead City

After Negan and Maggie’s big conversation last week, she has upped sticks to Manhattan (inside the Statue of Liberty’s nose, to be precise) while Negan is zoning out playing Gears of War 2 (an Easter egg for The Walking Dead diehards). The wall drawings Maggie comes across suggest that this semi-peace is about to be horribly interrupted. Priya Elan

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Nia DaCosta, 2026), 9pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

For the second instalment of the post-pandemic horror trilogy, Nia DaCosta takes the directorial reins from Danny Boyle for a poignant yet surprisingly funny tale, which largely shuns the series’ rabid terror in favour of pathos and a tiny sliver of hope. Teenager Spike (Alfie Williams) has been captured by Jack O’Connell’s disturbed satanic cult leader, Jimmy, and his gang. Meanwhile, Dr Kelson (the inestimable Ralph Fiennes) develops a bizarrely moving relationship with an infected man, Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry). Simon Wardell
