Two highly recognizable names from Westeros are heading back to our lives in 2027, though this time you won’t be watching them from your couch. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, PlaySide’s upcoming real-time strategy game, will have both The Mountain and Arya Stark in its hero lineup, which means you get to command them yourself instead of just wincing at whatever they do on screen.

According to its Steam page, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will be a classic real-time strategy game set across the Seven Kingdoms, where you can play a solo campaign to conquer the realm or jump into multiplayer skirmish matches and fight other players for the Iron Throne. You can also lead the Great Houses, build up your forces, and rely on a handful of well-known heroes to tip battles in your favor. PlaySide is handling both development and publishing, listing the game for a 2027 release.

The pairing of The Mountain and Arya Stark brings back plenty of memories, but it also feels like a smart choice for a strategy game like Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, because they sit at opposite ends of what a hero can be in this genre. The Mountain is Gregor Clegane, a man so large and so brutal that other characters mostly talk about him in lowered voices, so it’s easy to picture him as the heavy frontline unit nobody wants to see walking toward their army.

Arya, on the other hand, is small, fast, and best known for slipping into places she shouldn’t be and leaving with another name crossed off her list: A hero who rewards careful timing over raw strength. There’s a lot to guess here right now since the game is yet to go live, but fans of the TV series can already imagine a bunch. The new trailer from YouTube can be viewed below:

To be precise, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros as an action RTS with base building, tactical combat, and a dark medieval fantasy tone. Just like you’d expect, it carries mature content, so expect frequent violence, blood, and gore. Multiplayer makes the brutality a bit easier to deal with: You’ll have in-game chat and online play. At the same time, expect to be trading insults with strangers while you chase the throne.

A lot of game features are yet to be elaborated on. For example, there’s no word yet on how heroes get unlocked, whether certain houses get certain characters, and other mechanics. The system requirements are yet to be revealed too, so we can’t help you predict if your PC is good enough or whether you need an upgrade.

Still, putting the Hound’s older brother and the girl who spent years learning to kill gracefully and fight for justice in the same video game is a great hook, giving fans a reason to pay attention early. If you want to check out Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, the new game is set to launch globally in 2027.
