Man, 33, Dies After Car Crashes Into Sign Base on Chonburi Road

CHONBURI — 17 October 2026, A 33-year-old man died in hospital after his sedan veered off Highway 331 and crashed into a concrete sign base in Sattahip district.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Rojana Thammasathan Foundation in Sattahip were alerted to the crash at 18:50 near Sirisa 10 Village in Phlu Ta Luang subdistrict, along the Kasem Phon–Kilometre 10 junction route.

At the scene, rescuers found a blue Toyota Corolla Altis that had slammed into the concrete base supporting an illuminated road sign, causing the structure to collapse. The car was severely damaged, with the driver trapped inside.

The driver was identified as Wannaphachai Sriboonruang, 33, from Nonthaburi province. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to free him from the wreckage and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before rushing him to Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The cause of the crash has not been established. Initial possibilities include excessive speed and poor visibility, with reports that roadside lighting along the route had been out of service for an extended period, leaving the road dark.

Police are gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the cause.
