Linda Mwananchi Endorses Sifuna as 2027 Presidential Candidate

The Linda Mwananchi movement has endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, seeking to put to rest recent questions over divisions within the opposition outfit.

The decision was announced following a leadership retreat held on Saturday, where the movement said its leaders had agreed to remain united around what they described as a shared agenda for better governance.

“We met as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and resolved to move forward together, united by a common purpose of answering the call of Kenyans seeking better governance and rescuing our country from the grave failures of the current administration,” the statement said.

The leaders resolved that Sifuna would lead the movement into the 2027 presidential contest and announce the political party through which he will seek the presidency in early October.

“In early October, Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the party on whose ticket he will run,” the statement added.

Linda Mwananchi plans coalition building

The movement also said it intends to work with like-minded political parties as it prepares for the 2027 election.

According to the leadership, the planned alliances will bring together parties that share its stated political objectives and commitment to addressing issues affecting Kenyans.

The endorsement follows weeks of public discussion about the direction of Linda Mwananchi and the political ambitions of some of its leading figures.

Sifuna welcomes decision

Sifuna later described the retreat as successful and expressed optimism about the movement’s next phase.

“Linda Mwananchi retreat imeisha late lakini imeisha mzuri. Always a pleasure being in the company of these great leaders! Mbele kuzuri sana!” Sifuna said.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also sought to emphasise the unity reached during the meeting.

“We are more united than ever,” Babu said.

He said the leaders had agreed to strengthen cooperation, consolidate their political bases and coordinate their activities ahead of the 2027 election.

“We agreed that achieving our common political objective requires unity, coordination, and a willingness to work together,” he added.

Babu reaffirms support for Sifuna

The retreat came days after Babu publicly reaffirmed his support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions amid reports of disagreements within Linda Mwananchi.

Sifuna has been pursuing a new political vehicle for his 2027 ambitions following his fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement.
