New Ali G movie is already coming to Prime Video this week just days after cinema release

Sacha Baron Cohen's new Ali G movie, Ali G: Who Iz I?, will soon be available to watch at home, just days after the film first hit cinemas for one weekend only.

A standalone new adventure for Cohen's fictional rapper that's not a sequel to 2002's Ali G Indahouse, Ali G: Who Iz I? didn't stay in cinemas very long. After being released on 23 October and having enjoyed a weekend on big screens across the UK, the mockumentary is now coming to Prime Video.

It was Ali G himself, or rather Cohen as the infamous rapper character, who shared the announcement on social media. In a X clip where he's rocking Ali G's signature orange puffer jacket, tinted sunglasses and goatee, Cohen said the film will be available to stream from Wednesday 28 October.

"Me movie comin to Prime Video dis Wendesday, it 89 minute long, dere’s 14400 minutes in a day meanin u’ll be able to watch it 161 times a day for de rest of ya lives for free," a post on the official Ali G's Twitter/X account reads.

Cohen reprises the role of wannabe rapper Ali G for the film, which also marks his feature directorial debut.

Co-written by Cohen with Anthony Hines, Peter Baynham, Dan Swimer, Dan Mazer and Keisha Zollar, Ali G: Who Iz I? sees the protagonist's world being turned upside down when he discovers his longtime girlfriend, Julie (Morgana Robinson) is pregnant.

Ali G then embarks on a journey to the United States in order to reclaim his fame and provide for his family.

Following the limited cinema release, the movie has earned a meagre 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics have branded it "[Cohen's] most offensive project yet" (via TheWrap) and "deeply depressing full-circle moment" (via Globe and Mail).

The Hollywood Reporter was more positive, conceding that the film offers "plenty of laughs along the way" though it suffers from its feature-length runtime.

Ali G: Who Iz I? will be available to stream on Prime Video from 28 October.
