Punjab FC will aim to secure its first away victory of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 when it faces Churchill Brothers SC here on Sunday.

After two rounds in the ongoing ISL, Punjab FC is currently in fourth in the standings with four points while Churchill Brothers is seventh with three points.

“Generally, we are a team built on balance. I am satisfied because we are producing chances and scoring in every game, and I am satisfied with our defensive organization,” Punjab’f head coach Pavlos Dermitzakis said before the match.

The clash marks the first-ever meeting between Punjab FC and Churchill Brothers in the Indian Super League, renewing an old rivalry from the I-League where they last met three years ago.

“In the ISL, a previous victory or defeat does not affect the psychology or performance for the next game that much. Churchill Brothers are an enthusiastic team new to the ISL. We will try to take advantage of the moments when we find them unready, but we need to be very cautious. Our target, as always, is to combine a good performance with a positive result,” Dermitzakis added.

Coached by Dimitris Dimitriou, Churchill Brothers announced its arrival in the ISL with an impressive 2-1 victory over Mumbai City FC but fell 0-4 to defending champion East Bengal in its previous match.

“I would like to give my sincere apologies to our fans, our duty is to come back as soon as possible,” Dimitriou said.

Despite the defeat and ongoing visa delays for new signings, the coach expects a response. “The spirit is very high. I think that there is not going to be any other match where we are going to have so many personal mistakes. We are going to see a better team.”

The Red Machines hold a historical head-to-head advantage against Punjab FC with three wins and two draws from their six previous I-League encounters. With the contest set to renew in the ISL, the Shers will look to improve its record as Churchill Brothers remains on the hunt for redemption after its recent defeat.
