Tourism Administration eyeing Indonesian market

Translate

The Tourism Administration said it is expanding its tourism campaign reaching out to Muslim tourists from Indonesia, after Taiwan ranked among Indonesians’ top three destinations this year excluding members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and is home to about 240 million Muslims, it said.

The latest data from the Indonesian Central Agency of Statistics showed that the country has 9.16 million outbound tourists, it said.

Taiwan ranked third globally — tied with the UK — among non-OIC destinations in this year’s Global Muslim Travel Index jointly released by Mastercard and CrescentRating, it added.

“This continued international recognition has strengthened Taiwan’s reputation as a trusted and attractive destination for Indonesian Muslim travelers, further enhancing its appeal for in-depth cultural and leisure tourism,” the tourism agency said.

The agency said that, to boost arrivals from Indonesia, it organized a delegation trip to Surabaya and Jakarta last week, bringing together representatives from airlines, travel agencies and major tourism associations.

The goal is to position Taiwan as a popular destination for the New Year holiday, it said.

Surabaya is the second-largest city in Indonesia and has an increasing demand for overseas travel due to its large and growing middle class, it said, adding that it is a strategic city for growing the Taiwan-bound tourism market.

The agency added that it also spent three days promoting tourism at the Lippo Mall Puri in Jakarta.

The promotional activities were designed to target high-income Muslims as well as people with high purchasing power and young people in Jakarta, it added.
