Coronation Street confirms Debbie's agonising decision in Eva story

Coronation Street has confirmed Debbie Webster's decision as her suspicions around who pushed Eva Price round on son Carl. Eva was recently shoved down the Rovers Return cellar stairs, with the characters – including Eva – unaware of who the culprit is.

Viewers of course know that Sam Blakeman is the real attacker, though among those in the dark eyes are turning towards Carl.

In tonight's (28 September) episode, Kit Green questions Debbie and Carl, as the latter admits that he was in the pub, confirming that Eva was "closing up" and he helped her put crates in the back yard – though as Kit presses on whether he saw anyone else, Carl admits he didn't and went home.

However, Ronnie Bailey's suspicions mount as he questions why Carl didn't tell them that before, especially as he missed Debbie's drinks to drink on his own.

When everyone is out of the room, Debbie picks up Carl's coat and wallet that has fallen on the floor, only to find it stuffed full of cash, raising her suspicions.

Ben later reveals to the family that Eva is set to make a full recovery, and when she comes to, Eva admits she can't remember who pushed her. Kit then arrives to ask Eva a few questions about the attack, though she says she won't be of much use given her foggy memory.

Meanwhile, Debbie speaks to Ronnie and Kevin about her Carl discovery, admitting she doesn't want to think of the worst and that there could be an "innocent" explanation. However, Kevin and Ronnie suspect he took it from the Rovers till, and that he attacked Eva to keep her quiet.

Debbie implores them to "stop it", though later on she goes to visit Kit. There, she tells him: "I think Carl might have pushed Eva down the steps."

Kit then asks if she is willing to make a statement, to which she nods.

What will the consequences be for Carl, as well as his relationship with Debbie amid her mistaken suspicions?

Debbie actor Sue Devaney recently teased to Digital Spy that her character's loyalties will be tested going forward – though it seems Carl will find an unexpected ally in Eva.
