Coronation Street reveals upsetting new Ronnie and Debbie scene as their distance grows

Translate

Coronation Street airs upsetting scenes for Debbie Webster and husband Ronnie Bailey next week as she accidentally calls him the wrong name while trying to initiate some morning romance.

The couple's relationship has been under strain in recent weeks, as Debbie's dementia worsens and Ronnie worries about being able to care for her.

In scenes to air next week, Debbie interrupts Ronnie’s breakfast, declaring she’s feeling frisky and suggesting a roll in the hay.

When Ronnie suggests they talk first, Debbie calls him Darren, the name of one her old flames.

Ronnie decides not to call Debbie out on her mistake and instead feigns a headache, leaving Debbie wondering what’s wrong with him.

Further spoilers for next week have shown that Ronnie's rejection will leave Debbie to believe he doesn't fancy her anymore and see her almost cheat with another man.

While at the hotel, Debbie will meet Stan, the fiancé of her bridal client Denise. Feeling upset over Ronnie, she will offer Stan some red wine – only for Ronnie to arrive and find her flirting with another man.

Explaining what's going on in Ronnie's head, actor Vinta Morgan said: "Ronnie's really aware of the idea of consent and of Debbie's memory displacement.

"She could be in a situation that seems normal, then suddenly she says something that's different to what the situation is.

"Ronnie's just very scared," he added. "Their relationship is built on an enormous passion for each other, but he never wants to put her in any position where she may be taken advantage of."

That's not all Debbie will have to deal with next week, as she'll also find herself encountering former prison mate Paula, with actress Kelli Hollis promising "it’s not going to be plain sailing", when the women meet again.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
