Harry Styles Dances Through His Differences With a Group of Strangers in ‘Coming Up Roses’ Video
Harry Styles finds common ground on the dance floor with a group of strangers in his new music video for “Coming Up Roses,” which finds the singer-songwriter learning new steps alongside a pregnant waitress, a man in a neck brace, a denim-clad cowboy and more characters.
The visual posted Monday (Oct. 26) opens with Styles in the ballroom with his eccentric mix of classmates, at first warming up with some squats before slowly finding his footing while awkwardly trying out basic steps with different partners. As he improves, the Grammy winner twirls away with a woman in a bridal gown before switching to a man in a suit, whom he accidentally spins into a table.
“Just for tonight, let’s go hangover chasing/ And I’ll talk your ear off about why it’s safe,” he sings. “As I fumble my words and fall flat on my face through the truth/ Just say the word and we’ll take up the test.”
During the song’s orchestral instrumental, Styles and his classmates watch as their instructor performs an inspiring solo routine that incorporates a number of birdlike movements. After class is dismissed, the British pop star hangs back for a moment to contemplatively enjoy one of the cookies on the snack table, then joins the rest of his classmates-turned-friends for a group photo.
“Coming Up Roses” marks the fourth track on Styles’ March album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Ocassionally — which debuted atop the Billboard 200 — to get the music video treatment. Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Aperture” also got a visual, as did “American Girls” and “Dance No More.”
