UCL: Madrid Edge Out Inter As Man City Overcome Porto Away
Real Madrid began this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.
Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde were on target for Madrid while Carlos Augusto got Inter’s goal.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 14th minute assisted by Moroccan international Brahim Díaz before Valverde doubled the lead on 23 minutes, capitalising on a goalkeeper error by Josep Martínez.
However, Augusto pulled one back for Inter in the 77th minute assisted by Lautaro Martínez to make it a nervy end to the match for Madrid.
At the Estadio do Dragao in Portugal, a brace from Erling Haaland saw Manchester City defeat FC Porto 2-0.
Haaland broke the deadlock with a header in the 47th minute off an assist from summer signing Enzo Fernández, before adding the second goal in the 91st minute from a corner.
