2 nabbed over shooting incident in Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Police arrested two suspects following a shooting incident in Sitio Haguines, Barangay Wasig in Mansalay town, on Saturday afternoon.

The Mansalay Municipal Police Station launched a hot-pursuit operation after receiving a report of the shooting at around 5:30 p.m., police said.

Responding police officers proceeded to the Oriental Mindoro Southern District Hospital to verify the report and check on the victim’s condition before tracking down the suspects.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was tending to his cattle in Sitio Haguines when he noticed one of the suspects, accompanied by another person, hiding in a grassy area.

One of the suspects allegedly fired a homemade shotgun once, hitting the victim in the left hand and abdomen, before both suspects fled the area.

Police pursued the suspects and eventually arrested them. They are now in the custody of the Mansalay police pending the filing appropriate complaints.

Authorities also secured and documented evidence recovered from the crime scene for forensic and ballistic examination. /gsg
