Uruguayan pianist Enrique Graf to perform at Teatro Colón

Translate

Uruguayan pianist Enrique Graf will perform a solo concert at Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colón next Wednesday, presenting a programme that includes Lizst, Mozart and Hoiby.

Graf will perform Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331, featuring the famous 'Alla Turca' finale and take on the demanding virtuosity of Franz Liszt’s Sonata in B minor. The programme will also feature US composer Lee Hoiby’s Ten Variations on a Schubert Ländler, Op. 35.

The concert will take place in the theatre’s Salón Dorado at 5.30pm on November 4.

Graf, one of Uruguay’s most distinguished pianists, has built an international career as a performer, appearing at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center in the United States. He has also performed at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London and at festivals across Europe and the Americas.

He is also known in the region for founding the Festival Internacional de Colonia, a multidisciplinary arts festival in Uruguay’s historic Colonia del Sacramento.

His career gained momentum after winning first prize at the William Kapell International Piano Competition. Having won Uruguay’s national piano competitions, he received a full scholarship from the Peabody Conservatory and the Organisation of American States to study with the celebrated US pianist and teacher Leon Fleisher.

Graf has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Argentina, including those of Rosario, Córdoba, Tucumán and Mendoza, as well as leading symphonic ensembles elsewhere in South America, North America and Europe. His recordings include solo and chamber repertoire, alongside collaborations with world-renowned orchestras and groups.

The November 4 recital offers audiences an opportunity to hear Graf in a programme combining the elegance of Mozart, Hoiby’s exploration of folk material and the scale and the demands of Liszt’s B-minor Sonata.
