Taylor Swift announces The Life of a Showgirl re-release with additional songs for fans - and it's out very soon

Taylor Swift has announced The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore, an extended edition of her record-breaking 12th studio album - and there isn’t long to wait until its release!

The expanded version of the album, which features four brand-new songs, will drop on Friday, 25 September - marking almost a year since the album was released.

Writing in a post on social media, Swift revealed that the new material was written with collaborators Max Martin and Shellback during a trip to Sweden to celebrate the original album.

She explained: "About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave The Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history. I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my two collaborators on this album. Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs."

She continued: "I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made. The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore including four new songs is out on Friday and available to pre-order and save now."

The news comes just a day after the pop star revealed that a new single, titled Patient Zero, would be dropping on 25 September.

The announcement left fans scratching their heads over whether the single was connected to Swift’s Life of a Showgirl album, or whether it would mark a new era.

The Life of A Showgirl debuted in October 2025 and gave Swift her biggest-ever opening week of her career, moving 432,000 combined chart units.

The album also scored the biggest opening week for an international album in the UK this century, and went on to finish 2025 as the UK’s biggest album of the year, with 642,000 combined UK chart units.

Speaking about the original The Life of a Showgirl album ahead of its release, Swift insisted there would only be 12 songs on it.

"There's no other songs coming." she said on New Heights, the podcast her husband Travis Kelce co-hosts with his brother.

The pop star had previously been criticised for the lengthy tracklists of previous albums such as The Tortured Poets Department.

"It's not like The Tortured Poets Department where I was like: ‘Here's a data dump of everything I thought or felt in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12," she explained. "There's not a 13th, there's not a 14th, there's not other ones coming."

"This is the record I've been wanting to make for a very long time," she added. "Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know? You couldn't take one out and it be the same album. You couldn't add one and it be the same album. It's just right."

The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore will release on 25 September.
