A total of 36 Olympic quota places will be on offer at the 2026 ISSF World Championship in Doha, Qatar, where shooters have begun their qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

The Championship, being held from November 1 to 14, represents the biggest single opportunity to secure quota places.

The slots are distributed across 12 individual Olympic events in rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines, with three quota places available in each event.

The quota places will be allocated to National Olympic Committees (NOCs), rather than directly guaranteeing Olympic participation to the athletes who secure them.

The quota competitions began on Tuesday with the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle events, which offered three places each. The men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event followed on Wednesday, while the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol competitions will take place on Thursday.

The shotgun events will see quota places distributed in men’s and women’s skeet on November 6.

The qualification action will resume after a break, with the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event on November 9, followed by the women’s 25m pistol on November 10 and the men's 50m rifle 3 positions on November 11.

The men’s and women’s trap events on November 12 will conclude the quota allocation at the Championship.

India has sent a 54-member contingent to Doha, with two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker headlining the pistol squad. The country will field shooters across all 12 individual Olympic events.

The LA28 shooting programme will feature 15 medal events, comprising six men’s events, six women’s events and three mixed team competitions. A total of 340 athlete quota places will be available for shooting at the Olympics, including 170 each for men and women.

Following Doha, shooters will have further opportunities to secure Olympic places through the 2027 World Championships in Daegu and Cairo, ISSF World Cups and continental championships. The qualification period will conclude on May 1, 2028.
