At least 25 missing after boat carrying migrants partially sinks off coast of southern Greek island

About 25 people were missing after a boat carrying migrants partially sank south of the Greek island of Gavdos on Sunday, the Greek Coast Guard said.

So far, 51 foreign nationals have been rescued by nearby vessels, while one foreign national has been found unconscious, it said.

It said search efforts continued for the approximately 25 missing people, as survivors said there were 77 people on the boat.

Four nearby vessels and two European Union border agency Frontex boats were involved in the rescue, while another Coast Guard vessel, a Frontex ship, and a helicopter headed to the scene.

One dead, more than 30 missing after Vanuatu ferry sinks

In a separate incident on Sunday, Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat's office ⁠said in a statement that at least one person was confirmed dead, and more than 30 were missing after a ferry sank off Vanuatu's coast.

Search and rescue operations continued in the Pacific Island nation located about 1,750 km east of Australia after the MV Matui went down with dozens of crew and passengers on board, the statement posted on Facebook said.
