Mount Bromo access reopens following wildfire containment: officials

Translate

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park authority has fully reopened tourist access to Mount Bromo’s Penanjakan area in East Java following a temporary closure triggered by recent forest fires, officials said Thursday.

Field inspections confirmed that active hotspots have been suppressed, allowing the popular viewsite to resume operations with a daily cap of 2,752 visitors.

"Field monitoring detected no hotspots found, therefore the tourist access, which was previously restricted, will reopen on October 23," said National Park Head Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha in an official statement.

The reopening applies to access points across Pasuruan District, one of four regional gateways to Mount Bromo alongside Malang, Probolinggo, and Lumajang districts.

Park authorities reminded visitors and tour operators to strictly adhere to fire prevention guidelines as dry conditions persist across the national park grounds.

Under the updated security protocol, tourists are strictly prohibited from lighting campfires, burning trash, or discarding lit cigarette butts and matches within the reserve.

Nugraha urged the public to report any signs of smoke or re-igniting embers to park rangers immediately to prevent recurring wildfire outbreaks.

"We hope all parties will respond to the reopening of tourist access with discipline and responsibility while helping maintain fire safety throughout the national park," Nugraha said.
