Star Trek: Starfleet Academy actors tease how the second and final season ends.
The cast and executive producers of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy appeared at New York Comic-Con to announce that season 2 will premiere in March 2027 on Paramount+. Academy Award nominee Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt are also joining as special guest stars, playing the father of Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter) and the mother of Tarima (Zoe Steiner) and Ocam Sadal (Romeo Carere), respectively.
Speaking to TV Insider, Sandro Rosta, Bella Shepard, and Karim Diané were asked what they can tease about Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2's finale, which is also the series finale. While careful to avoid spoilers, the actors hinted that the finale is "really complicated" while also admitting, "We don't know how it ends." See their quotes below:
Bella Shepard: “Honestly, probably not anything, because it’s really complicated.”
Sandro Rosta: “We don’t know how it ends.”
Bella Shepard: “Yeah. It’s really complicated. We end off, I guess, sort of with cliffhangers, but also, things get wrapped up with a bow a little bit. We’ll see.”
Sandro Rosta: “No spoilers.”

The "complicated" nature of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's ending may stem from potential changes to the series finale. Back in March, executive producer and co-showrunner Noga Landau confirmed to ScreenRant that season 2 ended with a cliffhanger. Season 2 was produced with the hope of a season 3 renewal, before Paramount+ officially canceled Starfleet Academy.
Now that season 2's finale has become the series finale, it's likely that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's ending is being changed in post-production so that "things get wrapped up in a little bow," and audiences learn what the future holds for Starfleet Academy's cadets. The actors also likely haven't seen the final episode, hence Sandro Rosta saying, "We don't know how it ends."
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 will be about the cadets' growth, with new friendships, new relationships, and the budding Starfleet Officers reassessing what they want and the direction of their careers. A new cadet named Keats (Ruaridh Aldington) joins the Academy and Rosta hints that Keats and Caleb Mir become friends due to their "similar backgrounds."
Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané) comes under the tutelage of The Doctor (Robert Picardo) as a medical student, while Genesis Lythe (Bella Shepard) faces personal challenges. Meanwhile, Holly Hunter does double duty playing Nahla and her own twin sister. There is a lot to look forward to in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 before the mysterious series finale.
