Hailey Bieber Shares Pregnancy With Son Jack Was a Surprise Due to Septum in Her Uterus

Hailey Bieber is reflecting on her postpartum journey.

The Rhode Beauty founder shared insight into the realities of experiencing premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after welcoming her now-2-year-old son Jack Blue Bieber with husband Justin Bieber.

"I feel really drawn to women's health," Hailey told Women's Wear Daily in an interview published Oct. 30. "As a woman, I feel frustrated by the lack of research, the lack of awareness, the lack of certain conversation around it."

"Especially after having my own child," she continued. "That was just a really intense and special journey that I had. There's so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There's so many things that happen leading up to having a child."

PMDD—similar to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) but more intense—often occurs within two weeks before the menstrual cycle begins, causing symptoms like severe depression, irritability and tension, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health.

"After I had my son, I struggled with that a bit," she added, "and there's just not a lot of conversation or research around it."

The 29-year-old—whose company is committing $5 million and a three-year partnership with the Foundation for Women's Health—emphasized that, for her, the first step of her rhode to recovery was speaking about her experience.

"Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone," she explained. "When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and talking about the things we're dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey."

Hailey has been open about the ups and downs of her motherhood journey, including potential issues with her uterine septum while conceiving, which causes a higher risk of miscarrying or delivering early.

"It was a surprise," Hailey told co-hosts Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, who is also her OB/GYN, on the SHE MD podcast in March. "I had a septum in my uterus, and Dr. A kept saying, 'Well, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue.'"

"I was like, 'Okay. Well, I'm not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so we'll just cross that bridge when we get there,'" she recalled. "And then I magically got pregnant."

Since welcoming Jack, Hailey revealed she and Justin plan to have more than one baby, baby, baby.

"It's so fun, I love being a mom," she said on the In Your Dreams podcast in October 2025. "I always knew I wanted to be a mom, though. Since I was a little kid, I always envisioned myself having kids."
