The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds really has a genuine claim to being one of the best games in the series to date. While that's obviously a bold claim for a franchise celebrating 40 years since its debut, there's plenty of evidence to back it up.
Admittedly, there was a certain amount of nostalgia involved in the game’s praise, but it really did do a lot to advance the series both mechanically and visually. At the same time, it was tightly paced and well-structured, and it was an experience that you could comfortably work through in a weekend, without having to really lock in and skip meals or something.
The only thing that's perhaps working against it slightly in 2026 is the fact that it's 13 years old, and the visuals have started to show their age a little. That said, a new release does wonders for that issue, and it could easily become the best way to play the game this year.
Over on YouTube, the user Henriko Magnifico shared a video showing off his latest release, a 4K texture pack for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It serves as a massive visual overhaul for the original game, and it adds a bunch of quality-of-life changes to elements like the UI and text overlays to boot.
In sharing a little about what fans can expect from the release, the creator posted the following description:
“I'm happy to announce that my latest HD texture pack, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 4K is now available to everyone! This is a massive visual overhaul to Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and includes over 500 faithfully recreated 4K textures, an updated user interface, custom shaders and crystal clear text for all messages in the game. With full support for both the European, Japanese and American versions of the game. The installation process is also incredibly simple with minimal effort required of the user to set it up and start playing. Enjoy!”
Even the brief amount of footage shown in the three-minute trailer looks amazing, and it's a real boon for those who loved playing the game when it originally released. As you might expect, there was plenty of complimentary feedback from the gathered masses as well.
"I am absolutely blown away by the graphics, great job. I watched the whole video waiting to see Yuga Ganon, and I was sad when I did not see him in the trailer. Thank you for your work," one comment read.
While another added, "One of my favorite games of all time, made even better! Awesome job, dude!"
"You earned my immediate subscription with this video. I've been recently playing this game on New 3DS XL, despite having bought its brand-new US cartridge many many years ago. It's astonishingly beautiful work that you did. This would be splendid as an official remake," a third said.
In even better news, it's also totally free to download from Henriko's website in the Texture Packs section, though obviously you will have to organize the base game files for yourself. Just make sure you have a legitimate copy of A Link Between Worlds at home, just to keep everything above board legally.
