Linda Mwananchi Movement Endorses Sifuna As 2027 Presidential Candidate

The Linda Mwananchi Movement has officially settled on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its leader and presidential candidate amid claims of division.

On Saturday, September 26, the movement principals met in a retreat where they resolved to move forward together, dismissing any claims of internal wrangles and division between them.

According to a statement shared after the meeting, the principals resolved that Sifuna would become the leader of the movement as well as their presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

“Today, we met as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and resolved to move forward together. We resolved that  H.E Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” Linda Mwananchi stated.

At the same time, the movement said the Nairobi Senator would unveil his political party in early October, a party on whose ticket he will run.

This will mean that the movement will contain different parties, including Sifuna’s yet-to-be-launched party, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s The Mwananchi Party (TMP), among others.

Following the unveiling of the new party, Linda Mwananchi will then build a coalition with other parties as Sifuna seeks the top seat.

“We will seek to build a coalition with like-minded parties that share our commitment to the people of Kenya,” the movement added.

The meeting comes amid claims of division within the movement following the decision by some principals to declare their political parties, leaving Sifuna with no party.

However, the movement has distanced itself from the claims, maintaining that its unity is determined by a common purpose of answering the call of Kenyans seeking better governance and rescuing the country from the failures of the current administration.

The affirmation comes even as other opposition principals intensify their push for a single candidate to battle with President William Ruto at the ballot on August 10, 2027.

The opposition has maintained that the only way to win in the first round of the elections is to field a single candidate backed by everyone else.

The Sifuna-led movement has also maintained that it will seek a coalition with the opposition, with discussions now set to follow immediately after the new political party is unveiled.
