Emmerdale confirms Charity's prison fate - here's what happens next

Emmerdale has confirmed Charity Dingle's prison fate after the character was arrested over the murder of Dr Caitlin Todd.

Todd died last month after Sarah pushed her during a confrontation with Charity, causing her to fall and hit her head on a table. In the aftermath, Charity and Sarah came up with a story that Charity hit Todd in self-defence.

Earlier this week, Sarah was left reeling after finally uncovering the shocking truth about baby Leyla. The child Charity had given birth to as a surrogate for Sarah and Jacob was actually Charity's biological child with Ross.

Following this, Sarah withdrew her witness statement and told everyone, including the police, that Charity had forced her to make it and that Charity "wanted [Todd] dead". With the evidence pointing to her, Charity was arrested on suspicion of murder.

In tonight's episode, Charity summoned Cain to the prison using the St Christopher necklace he had previously given her to call in a favour.

At the prison, Charity told a shocked Cain everything about Leyla's parentage and about Sarah killing Dr Todd. She begged Cain to try to get Sarah to change her mind about her statement.

"I know I've been stupid and selfish, but I don't deserve this, Cain," said Charity. "Please talk to her and make her change her mind. She'll listen to you. Cain, you're my only hope. Please."

Later, Cain tried to get Sarah to change her statement, but she refused, and Charity began to lose hope of ever being released from prison.

When Charity called Cain, he told her Sarah wouldn't change her mind, with Charity saying "brought this on myself", adding: "I'm going down for murder."

Looking forward to next week, Charity suffers a PTSD attack after white powder is found in her cell, forcing her to undergo a full-body search to prove her innocence.

"Charity has survived so much, but this is the depths of hell," said our Emmerdale insider. "A full and uncomfortable body search pushes Charity towards a breakdown, then she is forced to suffer alone with only her distressing thoughts for company."

Meanwhile, a distraught Sarah breaks down and confesses everything to her husband Jacob.

"Leyla's parentage is almost common knowledge at this point," points out our spy. "Jacob will find out sooner or later, and Sarah would rather it came from her than as village gossip or hearing Mackenzie blurt it out in anger!"
