TAWAU, Oct 9 — Police arrested 14 male students yesterday in connection with a group student fight involving weapons at the Taman Ambar Playground, Jalan Kuhara here last Monday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tawau District Police Headquarters detained the suspects, aged between 12 and 14, to assist with the investigation.

“Police received a report regarding the fight at 6pm last Monday. Preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between two students before a fight broke out, which subsequently involved several other students.

“A viral video recording of the incident also helped police identify the individuals and their respective roles. In addition, police seized a mobile phone and a black bicycle believed to be related to the investigation,” he said in a statement here today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“Investigations are underway to determine the involvement and role of each arrested individual. Furthermore, the police are obtaining original video recordings, as well as recording statements from witnesses and the detainees.

“At the same time, the police are also awaiting the victim’s medical report and cooperating with the school authorities and the Tawau District Education Office regarding the case,” he added.

Rosdi urged members of the public who witnessed the incident or possess any related information to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the investigating officer, Insp Robiatul Adawiyah Japri, at 016-918 9402 or by visiting the nearest police station.

In the meantime, he reminded the public that any act of rioting, attacking others, or using any object as a weapon is a serious offence that will not be compromised.
