Fall 2 ending explained: How does it set up the third film?

Translate

*Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Fall and Fall 2.*

Fall 2 is out now in cinemas, serving as a follow-up to the 2022 survival thriller which became a huge hit on streaming.

The first movie followed Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) and Shiloh (Virginia Gardner), two friends who ascended the 600-metre B-67 TV Tower in an effort to overcome the trauma of the former's husband's death.

Shiloh was killed in that film, and the follow-up revolves around her sister Jax (Harriet Slater), who is convinced to undertake a plank walk on Mount Kwan in Thailand by her sister's friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) as a tribute.

After warnings that the mountain is dangerous, the pair – along with their guide, Jon (Tom Brittney) – begin the ascent.

Things very quickly go wrong. Jon goes missing, Jax and Luce are worried about altitude sickness, and they become stranded, backpacks just beyond their reach.

Read on to have the final moments unpacked.

Fall 2 ending explained: What is the twist?

The first Fall made use of a major twist, which revealed that for most of the film Shiloh was, in fact, a hallucination, and she had actually died very early on in the runtime.

The second movie also has another big reveal: Luce is not Luce at all.

This information is revealed while Luce and Jax are stranded at the Devil's Elbow, and have tried – to no avail – various methods to rescue themselves.

The first big reveal comes when Luce explains that she is suffering from terminal cancer, while shortly afterwards Jax suddenly comes to the realisation that Luce is not the same person as her sister's old friend.

Two women are on a cliff edge, using their way over wooden steps in the rock face – one is sitting down, one is attempting to walk across them.

At this point, Luce comes clean. She is in fact Billie, an old fan of Shiloh's who found inspiration in her thrill-seeking videos online. She had taken advantage of Jax's own grief and posed as Luce in an effort to buy Shiloh's truck and get closer to her former hero.

Eventually – after some heroics – the pair are able to reach Jon again on the radio and he comes to their rescue. But, alas, there is another big twist on the way.

It turned out that, against their knowledge, he had been using using Jax and Billie as drug mules. The oxygen tanks that he gave his clients (supposedly as a way to help prevent 'mountain bends') had actually been storage containers for fentanyl.

He admits to this fact, and reveals that the helicopter he had called – supposedly the authorities – was in fact also part of his smuggling operation.

It wouldn't be a Fall sequel without someone falling to their death, and in this movie this happens to both Billie and Jon.

Billie is the first to die, after she throws the drugs off the mountain and Jon violently retaliates, pushing her to her death. He attempts to do the same to Jax, but instead falls to his own death.

Jax is the only person who makes it out alive, and eventually uses the drugs as a bargaining chip for her own freedom when the helicopter arrives.

After securing her rescue, she has a drink in Billie's honour back at the bar where the dangerous trek had begun and ensures that a text Billie had planned to send to her family goes through.

Meanwhile, at the very end of the film, we find Jax flipping through Shiloh's 'f**k-it list', which contained the Mount Kwan walk and other various adrenaline activities she had hoped to pursue.

The last thing we see is Becky – Shiloh's friend from the first film – opening an invitation from Jax to come to a memorial for Shiloh in yet another perilous location.
