Coronation Street first look as Bernie is left crushed by hospital test results

Coronation Street's Bernie Winter-Alahan is set to receive more crushing news this week, as her test results confirm that she has the BRCA gene mutation. After Kit Green's recent breast cancer diagnosis, Bernie is left convinced that she's to blame.
The family first discovered they may be at risk of having the BRCA gene after the death of Bernie's estranged auntie Celeste Butterfield. As Bernie and Gemma Winter-Brown rushed to get tested, Bernie's son Kit was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

Kit's news left his loved ones fearing the worst, including his own son Brody Michaelis. And in upcoming episodes, Bernie worries what her results will also mean for Gemma and her kids.
In a newly released spoiler clip for Wednesday's episode, Dev Alahan is complaining about shoplifters to detective Kit. As he rambles on about the police's inaction, Kit appears uninterested and preoccupied by his own thoughts.
Meanwhile, Bernie receives an ominous call from the hospital, and listens with a solemn look on her face. After hanging up, she explains to Dev and Kit that her results have confirmed she has the BRCA mutation.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," she insists, adding: "But we already knew that, didn't we?"
"And I'm not the one with cancer," she continues, looking at Kit. "Just gotta pray that our Gemma's escaped my toxic inheritance."

Speaking recently about her character's future, Jane Hazlegrove told Digital Spy that Bernie has some "massive decisions" to make.
"For a woman pushing 60, deciding to lose her breasts is huge, especially because she and Dev are such a physical couple," the actor said. "But she has about a 70% chance of developing breast cancer, and she wants to be around for her grandkids and the quads. She's determined to stick around."
"She's not sure what the psychological effects of the surgery will be, but she has to make a decision and she says: 'I'm still going to be me'. It's going to be a long road, but she's not going anywhere."
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
