Gospel musician Esther Igbekele has explained her decision to organise a grand final burial celebration for her late mother, Mary Igbekele, saying it is an opportunity to honour a woman whose sacrifices and support contributed significantly to her life and music career.

The singer said the celebration would go beyond an elaborate burial ceremony, describing it as a tribute to a mother who believed in her dreams, encouraged her ambitions and stood by her through different stages of her life.

According to her, the event would be an opportunity to celebrate a lifetime of love and devotion that words alone cannot adequately express.

Igbekele, who described her late mother as a rare gem and a pillar of support, said she was determined to make the final burial memorable in recognition of the important role the deceased played in her life and career.

After joining other family members to celebrate her mother’s transition on October 1 and 2, the gospel singer is now preparing for a grand burial party in honour of the 71-year-old matriarch.

The ceremony is scheduled to hold on January 8, 2027, at Victoria Garden Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event is expected to attract dignitaries, gospel ministers, entertainers and other personalities from different walks of life.
