Russell Brand is left 'cowering in fear' in his cell as hundreds of prisoners chant: 'There's a Brand new n***e on the wing!'

Convicted rapist Russell Brand was on Saturday night said to be left ‘cowering in fear’ at the sound of hundreds of prisoners around Wandsworth Prison shouting a football-style chant containing his name.
Inmates in the infamous south London jail, where the sex predator has been held since his conviction on Thursday, have been repeatedly chanting: ‘There’s a Brand new n***e on the wing! A Brand new n***e. Brand, you c***, you ain’t so f***ing lairy now.’
The 51-year-old is due to be sentenced on Monday at Southwark Crown Court in London for rape and three sexual assaults and has been told by the judge to expect a lengthy custodial sentence.
On Saturday night, a source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Weekends at Wandsworth can be boring as the prison is so understaffed, meaning there is usually very little out-of-cell time for prisoners.
‘There is no outside exercise in the yard. Dinner or tea is served to prisoners at 4.30pm and then prisoners are back in their cells until 8am the next morning.
‘They have to get their amusement somewhere, so they’ve made Brand the object, with hundreds of prisoners shouting the chant.’

They added: ‘Brand only leaves his cell to collect his food at mealtimes before returning. He is going around like a shadow.
‘So far it’s only been verbal abuse but that doesn’t mean that if somehow another prisoner bumps into him it won’t be just verbal as any celebrity is a high-end target.’
They also warned that he was likely to be ‘approached soon by a couple of prisoners who rule over the wing’, adding: ‘No doubt he’s probably going to end up having to line their pockets in order to have a slightly safer and more comfortable time.’
After Brand’s first night on the prison’s induction wing, it is understood he was moved into the vulnerable persons’ wing – otherwise known as the ‘n***e wing’ by inmates in the notoriously poor and vermin-ridden conditions, where cells have been described as ‘inhumane’.
Brand will be forced to wash his own belongings in his sink if he wants a change of clothes, drying socks and pants on ‘the only heating’ – a pipe that runs through each cell and around the prison.
‘Conditions are basic,’ they said. ‘He has a small metal basin and a toilet in the cell.
'The only heating is a pipe that runs the length of the building and through each cell, so prisoners use it to dry their towels, T-shirts and socks etc. There’s no regular collection of laundry and washing is a luxury as and when.’
The source also revealed that the disgraced comedian was so unprepared for being sent down he ‘did not even take a bag with him to prison so he has no belongings’.
The prison’s assistant governor met with Brand shortly after his arrival and warned him to ‘expect the rough with the smooth’.
The born-again Christian, who ostentatiously clutched a Bible during some of his four-week-long trial, was met by the prison’s chaplain when he arrived and has prayed with him.
