MELAKA, Oct 7 — The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting today to discuss key dates and matters related to the Melaka state election at a hotel on Jalan Bendahara here.

The meeting, chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, is scheduled to begin at 10 am, followed by a media conference immediately after the meeting.

The EC will announce the key dates for the Melaka polls, including the issuance of the election writ, nomination and early voting dates, polling day and campaign period, as well as information on other preparations for the election.

On September 22, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka Legislative Assembly, effective Sept 23, paving the way for the 16th state election.

The state polls in 2021 saw Barisan Nasional (BN) win 21 of the 28 seats contested to form the state government, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with two. — Bernama
