ADP candidate says INEC result places her 4th in Osun gov poll

Translate

The Action Democratic Party candidate in last Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, Yemisi Opawoye, has disputed reports that she finished sixth in the poll, saying the official result sheet showed that she placed fourth.

Opawoye, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Saturday, said she received 2,946 votes, according to the INEC Form EC8E – Declaration of Result.

The ADP candidate attached a copy of the EC8E form, which contained the votes recorded by the 15 candidates in the election and was signed by the State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole.

She said the clarification became necessary following what she described as an error in some media reports concerning the final ranking of candidates in the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

The statement read partly, “Some media reports have incorrectly stated that Hon. Comr. Adeagbo Opawoye Yemisi, the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), finished 6th in the election.

“This is incorrect. According to the official INEC Form EC8E – Declaration of Result, Hon. Adeagbo Opawoye Yemisi received 2,946 votes, placing her 4th among the 15 governorship candidates when the candidates are ranked according to the votes they received.

“For clarity, the correct ranking around her position is:

1st — Accord: 511,067 votes
2nd — APC: 444,815 votes
3rd — ADC: 17,180 votes
4th — ADP (Adeagbo Opawoye Yemisi): 2,946 votes
5th — ZLP: 2,482 votes
6th — AA: 2,308 votes.”

She appealed to journalists, political stakeholders and the general public to rely on the official INEC EC8E Declaration of Result when reporting the final ranking of candidates.

“This clarification is not intended to create controversy, but simply to ensure that the public record reflects the actual votes declared by INEC,” the statement further read.

The PUNCH reports that the incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared winner of the governorship election by the State Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Joshua Ogunwole.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of Accord, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who scored 444,815 votes.
