Cops nab suspect in Puerto Galera online shopping worker’s slay


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old online shopping employee in Barangay Sto. Niño, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The victim, a resident of Sitio Centro in the same barangay, was fatally shot shortly after 2 p.m.
Initial reports disclosed that an unidentified male suspect was seen conversing with the victim moments before three successive gunshots were heard.

Upon receiving the report at 2:10 p.m., personnel of the Puerto Galera Municipal Police Station immediately proceeded to the area to secure the scene and conduct an initial investigation.

Information gathered revealed that the suspect fled the scene aboard a red Toyota Vios.

Puerto Galera Police Chief Maj. Simeon Tutaan Jr. immediately coordinated with adjacent police stations to intercept the fleeing vehicle.
The prompt coordination paid off as personnel of the San Teodoro Municipal Police Station successfully intercepted the car and apprehended the suspect, along with two men and a pregnant woman.

The suspect, along with items recovered from the vehicle, was turned over to the Puerto Galera MPS for proper documentation and further investigation. Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) personnel were also dispatched to process the crime scene.
“The swift coordination and cooperation among police stations are vital in responding immediately to any incident,” Tutaan said in a statement, adding that they will continue to fulfill their duty to maintain the safety and security of the people and ensure that those responsible for violating the law are brought to justice.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident. /mcm
