Moffi faces fresh injury concern at Hamburg

Translate

Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi is facing a knee setback at Hamburger SV after the problem disrupted his preparations for the club’s Bundesliga return against TSG Hoffenheim, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Moffi has been forced to suspend normal training because of the injury, putting his availability for the October 10 meeting with Hoffenheim in doubt.

The 27-year-old had been expected to use the international break to build his fitness after missing part of Hamburg’s pre-season preparations, but his recovery has now been slowed by the knee problem.

Moffi returned to the training pitch on Tuesday but could only manage light running and was not ready to resume full training with his teammates.

Hamburg coach Merlin Polzin is taking a cautious approach as the club continues to monitor the striker’s condition.

“We need to get to know his knee a little better through our work together. The knee reacted a bit more than I initially thought. Now we have to wait and see what happens this week,” Polzin told Kicker.

A final decision on Moffi’s involvement against Hoffenheim is yet to be made, with the fixture potentially coming too soon if his recovery does not progress as hoped.

Moffi joined Hamburg permanently from French club Nice earlier this year and was handed the No.9 shirt. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese side Porto, making 15 appearances in all competitions.

The Nigerian has made 23 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring six goals, while he left Nice after recording 24 goals in 72 appearances for the club.
