Police detain lorry driver after fatal Bagan Lalang crash

BUTTERWORTH: A lorry driver has been detained after a motorcyclist died in a crash at Jalan Perusahaan Sungai Lokan 6, Bagan Lalang.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman, said the 54-year-old man was detained to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Section 41(1) covers the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

In the incident at 11.30am on Monday, a 68-year-old motorcyclist died after his Honda EX5 collided with a Scania container lorry in Bagan Lalang.

"Initial investigations found that the container lorry was turning left into Jalan Perusahaan Sungai Lokan 6 when the motorcyclist was travelling alongside the lorry on its left.

"The motorcycle then collided with the front left side of the lorry," he said today.

Anuar said the victim, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, was taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

He was pronounced dead at the emergency department.
