Olivia Cooke's new thriller A Talent for Murder finally has a UK and Ireland release date. Directed by Anton Corbijn and also starring Helen Mirren and Alden Ehrenreich, A Talent for Murder is based on Joanna Murray-Smith's play Switzerland.

It follows author Patricia Highsmith (played by Mirren), who penned Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr Ripley.

She is approached by Edward Ridgeway (Alden Ehrenreich), a publisher who attempts to persuade Highsmith to write a final instalment of her Tom Ripley series.

Following its premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, it has been announced that A Talent for Murder is set to be released in UK and Irish cinemas on November 20.

A first-look trailer gave fans a glimpse of the starry thriller, including Cooke's character Clementine Balfour, a wealthy heiress traveling in the Swiss Alps who runs into Edward on a train.

A synopsis for the film reads: "It is 1995, and American author Highsmith (Mirren), now in her seventies and in poor health, has retired to the Swiss Alps, where she largely confines herself to her study, surrounded by her books, her cats, and her collection of antique weapons.

"Enter Edward Ridgeway (Ehrenreich), emissary for a New York publisher sent to persuade Highsmith to craft one last instalment in her bestselling series of mysteries featuring the murderous antihero, Tom Ripley.

"Irritated by this youthful, overly eager visitor, Highsmith refuses the offer — unless, that is, Ridgeway can dream up the perfect murder along with her."

Magnolia Mae’s Gabrielle Tana and LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon serve as producers on the film.

Brouhaha’s Troy Lum and Andrew Mason, Lunar Pictures' Jim Robison and Kurt Martin, Magnola Mae Films' Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Zurich Avenue's Karl Spoerri and Lucky Red's Andrea Occhipinti are also producing.

A Talent for Murder is released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 20 November.
